About Stand Proud

Stand Proud is a family-run business that helps people and their dogs throughout Reno, Northern Nevada, and across the West Coast. We pride ourselves on adapting our training to the individual dog and family.

We work with dogs at every stage—from puppies building a strong foundation to nervous shelter dogs and dogs with significant behavior concerns. Our balanced approach may include positive reinforcement, marker training, slip leads, prong collars, and e-collars when appropriate. Because dogs respond differently to tools and human interaction, we select and teach each method according to the dog’s temperament, needs, and progress.

We believe only about 25% of our work is dog training; the rest is coaching people. We do not promise a magic fix. Instead, we establish a reliable foundation, replace unwanted habits with better ones, teach practical skills, and show you how to continue the work at home. Your dog’s progress depends on follow-through and consistency, and we will support committed clients throughout the process.

Our philosophy is simple: use structure, consistency, motivation, and leadership to help dogs live happier, healthier lives. When dogs and owners communicate clearly and can depend on one another, the possibilities are endless.

Brandon, owner and head trainer, with a Stand Proud training dog

Brandon

Owner & Head Trainer

My path in the dog world began with rescue and rehabilitation. After countless volunteer hours at the Nevada Humane Society in Reno, I was offered a position working with dogs. I often spent time near the back row of kennels, where dogs with the most significant behavior concerns were housed. Wanting to understand how to help them began my journey into rescue, rehabilitation, and training.

I fit the mold of a balanced trainer, but I avoid placing myself in a single camp because every dog is unique. My education began early: my father housed, bred, and showed Akitas, so I learned from a young age that working and living safely with dogs requires mutual respect. I have attended educational seminars, read extensively, studied current approaches, and worked with more than 1,000 dogs across the West Coast while developing the Stand Proud training program.

I believe good trainers must continue learning and remain open-minded about the best approach for each dog. My experience also includes grooming, daycare, medical care, fostering, shelter work, and hospice care for senior dogs.

I am dedicated to improving your relationship with your dog and providing practical tools for a happy, healthy life together. I look forward to helping you through your training journey.

Danielle

Owner & Director

Hi, I’m Danielle, Brandon’s wife. My role in the business is to coordinate communication and scheduling with our clients, with help from our wonderful secretaries. I have loved dogs since I was a child and became known as the person who would take in any dog that needed help—even dogs with serious behavior concerns.

My love for these animals drives me every day. I will care for your dog like my own and do everything I can to help your dog thrive during training and long after returning home. I hold a master’s degree in Paralegal Studies and have a lifetime of customer-service experience. Bringing those skills into the dog world and building this business with my husband has truly been a dream come true.

Elijah & Evie

Dog Trainers in Training

Our children are part of what makes Stand Proud a family-run business. Elijah shares his parents’ love of dogs and helps with walks, feeding, photos, and calm, supervised exposure for dogs learning to feel comfortable around children. You may even meet him during a private lesson. Evie is our youngest team member and an enthusiastic source of moral support.

Abby, co-head trainer at Stand Proud Dog Training

Abby

Co-Head Trainer

I have always loved animals. As a child, I brought home anything I found—lizards, birds, snakes, and more. When I got my first dog as a teenager, I wanted to take him everywhere, but he needed better manners. That challenge sparked my passion for training. Eleven years later, my childhood dog is thriving, understands what is expected of him, and comes to work with me. I get to live my dream with my best buddy beside me.

I have worked in the dog industry for six years and truly found my home at Stand Proud. I believe every dog deserves to be understood and guided toward the best version of itself. Working with a team that genuinely cares for each dog has been both humbling and inspiring. My knowledge of behavior and training continues to grow, and my favorite part of the job is seeing dogs gain confidence and thrive during their time with us.

He loves the dogs, is patient with them, and knows their individual quirks. Sean is an invaluable member of our team and a trusted handler.

Debbie, Stand Proud secretary

Debbie

Secretary

I did not have a background in dogs or dog training when I became Danielle’s secretary. My professional background is in education and pharmacy technology, but when I interviewed with Danielle, the fit felt right. What started as a job quickly became a family.

Most of my client interaction happens through text messages, where I hear about your challenges, progress, and successes. I have also witnessed the tears of joy when clients reunite with their dogs after a long board-and-train program. Seeing our team’s dedication to each dog and family is incredibly rewarding. As part of the Stand Proud Pack, I hope to help create a positive change for you and your furry friend.

Alexia

Basic Obedience Trainer & Kennel Attendant

Growing up, dogs were more than pets—they were my best friends. My journey into training began with a lighthearted bet with my dad that I could train my own dog. While working with him, I discovered how deeply I enjoyed training. Stand Proud has given me an invaluable opportunity to grow that passion and learn more about dog behavior and clear communication.

Dog training is more than a hobby for me; it is a passion. I love connecting with animals, understanding their needs, and helping them thrive. Whether I am teaching a new skill or building a stronger bond, I find joy in each dog’s progress. Our workplace family has expanded my knowledge and shown me how much love an animal can communicate without saying a word.

Andrew, Stand Proud kennel attendant

Andrew

Kennel Attendant

You may see Andrew almost every time you drop off or pick up your dog. He is one of our most consistent and present kennel attendants, caring for dogs overnight as well as during many daytime shifts. He loves each dog he works with and takes the time to help every dog feel comfortable with him and the boarding environment. Andrew is also Brandon’s cousin and an important part of our family-run business.

Alex, property manager and kennel attendant

Alex

Property Manager & Kennel Attendant

Hi, I’m Alex. I have loved animals of every kind since childhood—even the creepy-crawly ones. As I got older, I knew working with animals was my calling. My background includes conservation work with the University of Nevada, Reno and state parks, as well as work on farms and ranches.

I am delighted to work with dogs at Stand Proud and bring my animal-care knowledge to the team. My experience with many different species has taught me how to maintain a clean, caring, and healthy environment. I am proud to provide that same level of care for your furry family members during their stay with us.

Demi, Stand Proud kennel attendant

Demi

Kennel Attendant

Hi, dog lovers! I’m Demi, Danielle’s sister. I have always loved animals. Growing up in the desert, I caught and cared for everything—even the slimy and slithery creatures. After watching my sister grow Stand Proud, I could not turn down the opportunity to join her and spend my days caring for dogs.

Every dog deserves love, and each dog has a unique personality. As a kennel attendant, I help care for your dogs and keep them comfortable during training and boarding. I pay close attention to the details that make each dog feel safe, happy, and excited to return.
